Then comes the chase:

Brawley Wildcats — 1-4

And here's the interesting part:

Nobody has run away from the Valley yet.

💥 WHAT HAPPENED FRIDAY?

Holtville 56, Cibola 0

The Vikings didn't just win.

They erased the conversation.

When Holtville gets its offense moving, possessions turn into points quickly. A 56-0 result is the kind of score that gets everybody else's attention.

Prediction for what's next: Holtville has the firepower to make noise once league games arrive. The question won't be whether they can score — it'll be whether they can do it against the Valley's better defenses.

The Scots keep winning.

Vincent Memorial has quietly put itself in the same conversation as Imperial and Central, and now everybody gets to find out whether that 4-1 record can carry into the games that matter most.

Imperial 35, Palo Verde Valley 6

The Tigers did what teams at the top are supposed to do.

They handled business.

At 4-1, Imperial remains one of the teams everybody else has to chase.

Southwest 27, O'Farrell Charter 6

A solid win keeps Southwest alive in the middle of the race.

At 2-2, there is still plenty of football left to change the picture.

Calipatria 16, Yuma 6

Maybe it wasn't flashy.

Maybe it wasn't pretty.

But 3-1 is 3-1.

Calipatria is sitting in a very interesting spot right now. They don't need everybody to notice them yet.

They just need to keep winning.

Central 14, La Quinta 7

This might have been one of the most important wins of the night.

Not because it was pretty.

Because it wasn't.

Central found a way to win a football game that turned into a fight.

Those games matter later.

The Spartans are 4-1 for a reason.

Christian 44, Calexico 0

No sugarcoating this one.

The Bulldogs got shut out.

But here's the thing about football:

You don't get to change last Friday. You get to change tonight.

And tonight, Calexico gets Brawley.

NOW: BRAWLEY VS. CALEXICO

This is the game I'm watching.

Not because either team has the best record.

Because both teams have something to prove.

Brawley comes in at 1-4, but that 44-29 win gave the Wildcats something they didn't have entering Week 5:

WHAT I'M WATCHING NEXT

IMPERIAL

At 4-1, the Tigers have put themselves in position to control their own story.

Prediction: Imperial stays in the top group heading into league play.

CENTRAL

The Spartans keep finding ways to win.

Prediction: Expect Central to continue hanging around the top of the standings deep into the season.

VINCENT MEMORIAL

The Scots are 4-1 and have every reason to believe they're part of the championship conversation.

Prediction: Vincent Memorial's next big test will tell us a lot about whether this team can stay with Imperial and Central.

CALIPATRIA

This is the team I think people need to watch.

3-1.

Quiet.

Consistent.

Dangerous if nobody takes them seriously.

Prediction: Calipatria has a real chance to make the standings uncomfortable for the teams above them.

HOLTVILLE

You don't score 56 and get ignored.

Prediction: If Holtville can keep that offense rolling, they are capable of ruining somebody's Friday night when league play arrives.

THE VALLEY IS ABOUT TO GET VERY INTERESTING

Five weeks ago, everybody had theories.

Now we have evidence.

Imperial is 4-1.

Central is 4-1.

Vincent Memorial is 4-1.

Calipatria is 3-1.

And behind them?

Teams are waiting for one of those leaders to slip.

That's what makes the next few weeks so important.

Because once league play starts, there are no more “we'll see.”

There are standings points.

There are rivalries.

There are playoff implications.

And there are teams that are going to find out very quickly whether they belong at the top of this Valley.
